Local Guide for Twain Harte: Things to do / Activities / Attractions
Twain Harte is a popular year 'round vacation destination--and for good reason! Located in the Sierra Nevada mountains at 4,000 feet it is high enough to be above the smog and fog and have air conditioned summers but low enough to offer mild winters with enough snow to be beautiful but not bothersome. The air is clean and clear. The countryside is beautiful. The altitude also offers tall pine trees and starry nights that defy description.
Twain Harte is the perfect-sized community...small enough to walk around (and if you drive, there are no stoplights!) but large enough to offer a nice selection of stores, specialty shops and places to eat. Twain Harte has a public 9-hole golf course and, in the summer, there's swimming, miniature golf and "Concerts in the Pines" preformed in the outdoor theatre adjacent to the golf course.
The historic gold rush towns of Sonora, Jamestown, Columbia, Murphys and Angels Camp are all just a half to an hour away. These communities offer a wide range of goods and services--from live theatre to highly rated restaurants.
World famous Yosemite National Park is an easy commute via the scenic Highway 120 corridor. You can enjoy a full day at the park, return to Twain Harte late in the day and know that you are still in the middle of this very special part of California.
Gold Panning and backpacking are here too and, for the most adventuresome, nearby river rafting offers you a choice of world class rivers and rapids!
Needless to say, you have lots of choices. More than enough to make plans for a return trip to this vacation paradise.
